The Peasants’ War of 1525
The peasants’ revolt, and the castles that felt it.
In 1525 the peasant revolt that swept through the German lands reached here too, and not as distant news. At Ossana the rebel peasants of the valley seized the castle of San Michele. Castel Cles suffered such damage that it was decided to rebuild it, which is why it has Renaissance forms today. At Coredo, fifty years earlier, the inhabitants had already occupied the castle during a revolt against the prince-bishop: the discontent was not born in 1525.
