An eighteenth-century chapel remade to resemble the Lourdes grotto.

On the site stood a Romanesque church of the 12th century, whose remains were found by archaeological surveys, which also reconstructed its plan. The building was remade in 1537, the year of its first written mention: it appears in the records of the pastoral visit made in the territory by Cardinal and Prince Bishop Bernardo Clesio. The works of 1544 changed its Romanesque forms into Gothic ones.

The bell tower dates from the early years of the 18th century, and in the second half of the century a chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony was added. At the end of the 19th century that chapel was transformed to resemble the Lourdes grotto, with a sculptural group of Our Lady: French devotion arriving all the way here, and religious fashions that change the face of buildings just as civil ones do.

On the façade there remain fifteenth-century frescoes with Saints Maurice, Christopher, Fabian and Sebastian, and a Madonna and Child.

Today in the valleys

Just a moment...

Gipthe bearded vulture of Valli del Noce

Hi, I am Gip. I am a bearded vulture: my species had vanished from the Alps in the 1930s, and the first one born in Trentino in at least a hundred and fifty years took flight from Val di Rabbi this past 16 July.

Ask me about places, the valleys or the people who work here. I answer with what is in our pages: if I do not know something, I will tell you.

Gip is an assistant based on artificial intelligence. It answers only with the verified facts in our pages. Your questions are processed by Anthropic, in the United States, and we do not keep them: do not write personal data. How we handle them.
