Sasso Rosso
In the roped party of 1885 there was a third person, and we do not know who.
A mountain of 2,645 metres in the Dolomiti di Brenta, which forms a natural boundary to the Piana della Nana. The name comes from the red colour that sets it apart from the surrounding mountains. At its foot stands the Bivacco Costanzi.
The first ascents are carefully recorded: Antonio Salvadori in the summer of 1879, then Silvestro Valenti and Ivo Silvestri on 27 August 1885, and with them a third person whose name has not survived. In 1892 Hjalmar Arlberg and Remigio Gasperi made the climb. That nameless companion says something about how the history of mountaineering was written, and about who was left out of it.
