Lago di Tovel
The alpine lake at the head of the val di Tovel, at 1,177 metres, within the Parco naturale Adamello Brenta
Lake Tovel lies at the head of the val di Tovel, which rises from Tuenno for seventeen kilometres between monte Peller and the Campa massif, as far as the rock amphitheatre of the Dolomiti di Brenta that closes off the upper valley. It stands at 1,177 metres, in the Parco naturale Adamello Brenta, and is the best-known lake in the Val di Non. For decades, until the 1960s, its waters turned red in summer because of an alga: the phenomenon has ended, but the name "red lake" has remained. You walk around it on foot along the shore, and on still days the Dolomites are reflected in it in full.
