Galleria Paradiso
At the Passo Paradiso, at 2,573 metres above the Tonale, a First World War tunnel dug into the granite.
The tunnel opens astride the Passo Paradiso, right on the line of the disputed border between the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies during the First World War. Carved out of the granite rock, it sheltered soldiers from the cold, from blizzards and from artillery fire. Since 2011 it has housed the exhibition «Suoni e voci della Guerra Bianca», with finds collected on the surrounding mountains by the recuperanti of Vermiglio and a sound installation that brings back the noises of the front in muffled form, as they might have reached those sheltering inside the rock. It can be reached by the Paradiso cable car from the Passo del Tonale; outside, an educational trail crosses the fortified area of the Monticelli.
