Forte Velon
The small fort that defended the Strino at close quarters, later the telephone exchange of the Tonale forts.

Built between 1898 and 1900, in concrete faced with blocks of local granite, it was a supporting work for forte Strino, which stands above it: the Austrians called it the work for the close defence of the Strino. Two storeys on a square plan, two 8 centimetre guns and two machine guns behind armoured shields: it was meant to close the mouth of the val di Stavel and keep the valley floor of the Vermigliana under fire.
In 1906 it was linked to forte Strino by a protected concrete staircase. But it was already considered obsolete before the war, and in 1915 it was disarmed: from then on it served as a telephone exchange for the forts of the Tonale barrier. After the war, scavengers of war materiel damaged it severely, and today it is a ruin.
