The first documentary mention of the church of Monclassico dates from 1240, and it does not concern a religious matter: it is a private dispute over boundaries between properties. The status of curacy, linked to the pieve of Malé, came in 1610.
In the last quarter of the eighteenth century the original church was rebuilt to enlarge it and adapt it to the congregation, and straight afterwards the decoration of the interior with stucco and frescoes began; of the old complex, the bell tower remained standing. The solemn consecration of the new building was celebrated in 1825, and in 1919 the church was raised to the status of parish church.
Since the second half of the twentieth century it has been the subject of restoration and maintenance work: the exterior consolidated with a new retaining wall, since the church stands in a raised position above the ground, the flooring renewed, the frescoes retouched to ensure their preservation, the balustrade removed with the liturgical reordering. In the new century the roof has been redone with wooden shingles.
