Conventual and parish church of San Michele all'Adige, built together with the monastery between 1144 and 1145 at the joint wish of Altemanno, Bishop of Trento, and the counts of Appiano. It was consecrated by Altemanno himself in 1145, with a dedication to Christ, to Mary and to the archangel Michael.

The Augustinian canons who ran it came largely from the abbey of Novacella, and from there they controlled a wide territory in the Adige valley. In 1267 a fire destroyed the complex: to get it back on its feet the monks sold the properties they held at Fai della Paganella.

The convent's seal, attested in the fourteenth century, shows Saint Michael piercing the dragon with his lance.

Just a moment...

Gipthe bearded vulture of Valli del Noce

Hi, I am Gip. I am a bearded vulture: my species had vanished from the Alps in the 1930s, and the first one born in Trentino in at least a hundred and fifty years took flight from Val di Rabbi this past 16 July.

Ask me about places, the valleys or the people who work here. I answer with what is in our pages: if I do not know something, I will tell you.

Gip is an assistant based on artificial intelligence. It answers only with the verified facts in our pages. Your questions are processed by Anthropic, in the United States, and we do not keep them: do not write personal data. How we handle them.
