In 1742, after lengthy negotiations, the Capuchin fathers obtained permission to found a convent with its church in Malé. The works were completed in 1744 and the church, dedicated to Saint John Nepomuk, was blessed on 20 September by Canon Giuseppe Giovanni Michele Lodron and consecrated on 4 July of the following year by the coadjutor bishop of Trento, Leopoldo Ernesto Firmian. The relics of the holy martyrs Onesto, Bonifacio, Candido, Giocondo and Onorato were placed in the high altar.
Between 1810 and 1815 the convent was secularised and served as lodgings for passing military troops, then returned to use until 24 July 1892, when a very serious fire struck the whole complex and completely destroyed the church.
The complex then passed to the municipality, which converted the convent into a school and had the church rebuilt starting from the floor level of the previous structure. The new place of worship was dedicated to Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, who is the patron saint of students: the name came from the new function of the neighbouring building. Apart from a side chapel added between 1931 and 1932, no alterations are recorded since then.
