The sacred building dedicated to the Madonna Addolorata was built around 1688 in the northern part of Mezzolombardo, in the locality of Borghetto, and the solemn consecration was celebrated in 1695.
When Napoleon's troops invaded Trentino as well at the end of the 18th century, the church was requisitioned by the French soldiers and used as a hospital; it was reopened for worship only afterwards, on an unspecified date, following a renewed consecration. A restoration took place in 1856 and the next one only in 2007, when work focused mainly on the interior, with the plasterwork touched up and the walls repainted.
The small church is in the Baroque style and has a frescoed vault in the hall, where the coat of arms of the Sardagna family stands out; on the walls there are two large panels in white and black marble with the Nativity and the Tree of Life.
