In the second half of the 19th century the old church of the Addolorata no longer sufficed for the inhabitants, and it was decided to build a new one in the centre of the village, on land given by Count Paride Spaur. Among the projects submitted, the one by the provincial engineer Anton Geppert was chosen; the foundation stone was laid on 21 June 1874 and the work was completed in 1879.
What followed shows how things worked under the empire: on 16 October 1900 Sporminore obtained its independence from the parish of Spormaggiore through a ruling of the supreme court in Vienna, and only in 1907 did the heads of families give up the right to elect their own curate. In 1909 the church became a parish church.
During the First World War four of the five bells were requisitioned.
