Rifugio Vioz «Mantova»
At 3,535 metres, just below the summit of the Vioz: the second highest refuge in the Eastern Alps.
The Mantova refuge at the Vioz stands at 3,535 metres in the Ortles-Cevedale group, in the municipality of Peio, just below the summit of Monte Vioz: it is the second highest refuge in the Eastern Alps. The first building was constructed between 1909 and 1911 by the Halle section of the German Alpine Club, and even then it had a hand-operated cableway that covered 2,800 metres of difference in height; during the First World War it was used by soldiers. Today it belongs to the Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini.
