Monte Luco
The name comes from the Latin lucus, meaning wood.

Monte Luco, also called Monte Lucco and in German Laugenspitze, reaches 2,434 metres and forms the north-eastern extremity of the Catena delle Maddalene, on the watershed between the upper Val di Non and the val d'Ultimo, in the municipality of Castelfondo.
Its name has a long and documented history. It is attested in 1495 and 1552 as Laugenperg and in 1770 as Groß Laugen, and derives from a farmstead of the same name in the Val d'Ultimo, which in 1423 appears as der hof ze Laugen. The etymological basis is the Latin lucus, that is wood or undergrowth, which in German was diphthongised in the medieval period: beneath the German name of the mountain there is a Latin word.
The summit is reached by path number 10, which starts from the passo delle Palade, or by number 24, which starts from Malga Castrin. At an altitude of 2,200 metres you come to a small lake, the Lago del Monte Luco, in German Laugensee, where char fishing is practised.
