Cima Sternai Meridionale
The cirque below the summit was once a large glacier, and today it is rubble.

Cima Sternai Meridionale, in German Vordere Eggenspitze, reaches 3,385 metres in the Ilmenkamm of the Ortles Alps, on the border between the provinces of Bolzano and Trento and inside the Parco nazionale dello Stelvio. The main ridge links it to the north-west with the Hintere Eggenspitze, which in Italian is Cima Sternai, and to the south-east with the Gleckspitze, the Collecchio.
To the north there is a cirque that tells of a change: inside it are rubble and isolated fields of old snow, which once formed a large glacier. The east ridge of this peak and the north-east ridge of Cima Sternai flank the cirque, and ridges and cirque end together in the Lago Verde, an artificial reservoir at 2,529 metres.
No marked path reaches the summit, but it can be climbed by easy to moderate scrambling on the last stretch. There are two bases, on opposite slopes: the rifugio Canziani, about two kilometres as the crow flies to the north-east, and the rifugio Silvio Dorigoni to the south-west.
