Cima Nera
The path to the summit was opened by the military.

Cima Nera reaches 3,037 metres and belongs to the Ortles-Cevedale group. Together with cima Lagolungo, it is the only summit of the Val de la Mare, a side valley of the Val di Peio, to lie entirely within Trentino. It is little visited, and not because it is difficult: it is easier to climb than the snow-covered peaks around it, and the view rewards the effort.
What makes it special are the traces of the First World War that you meet on the way up. The summit served as a military observation post over the innermost part of the Val di Peio, and just below the top the remains of that structure can still be seen; the track itself that leads from the lake to the summit is of military origin.
You reach it from the Val di Peio. From malga Mare, at 2,031 metres, you climb quickly along path SAT 102 as far as pian Venezia, then the route eases off to the rifugio Larcher al Cevedale, at 2,607 metres. From there you head east towards the lago delle Marmotte, at an altitude of 2,701 metres, and finally north: from the lakeshore to the summit it takes about three quarters of an hour.
