Castel Pagan

It is not shaped like a pyramid, and perhaps for this reason it is called neither cima nor monte.

Castel Pagan reaches 2,608 metres and is one of the highest and southernmost peaks of the Catena delle Maddalene, in the southern Rhaetian Alps. It stands between the Val di Rabbi and the Val di Bresimo, that is, between the Val di Sole and the Val di Non, surrounded by higher peaks such as the Punta di Quaira and Cima Tuatti.

Its distinctive feature is its shape. Unlike the other peaks of the group, it is not a pyramid: from certain angles it looks more like an unstable, haphazard construction, put together without a design. This is probably why it has a name outside common usage, without the "cima" or "monte" that accompany the others.

It can be reached from three valleys. From the Val di Rabbi, you start from Cavallar along the SAT path 133a, via malga Palù and passo Palù; from there the route climbs steeply up the northern side, where the track is lost and you reach the first higher grade.

Just a moment...

Gipthe bearded vulture of Valli del Noce

Hi, I am Gip. I am a bearded vulture: my species had vanished from the Alps in the 1930s, and the first one born in Trentino in at least a hundred and fifty years took flight from Val di Rabbi this past 16 July.

Ask me about places, the valleys or the people who work here. I answer with what is in our pages: if I do not know something, I will tell you.

Gip is an assistant based on artificial intelligence. It answers only with the verified facts in our pages. Your questions are processed by Anthropic, in the United States, and we do not keep them: do not write personal data. How we handle them.
